Portland Sailing on the Mighty Columbia River
The Columbia River, home to Island Sailing Portland, provides year round sailing to club members, students, and sailing enthusiasts. The Clubhouse is nestled on the east end of Hayden Island with gorgeous views of Mt. Hood. Club activities include member parties, classes, a variety of seminars, and member organized Racing and Cruising Groups.
With reliable winds funneled through the Gorge, sailing the Columbia River can be a complete adrenaline rush. Island Sailing's Portland setting can be ideal for sailing enthusiasts as summer's leisurely outings and warm breezes shift into more challenging wind conditions in the late fall and spring.
Racers and Cruisers alike utilize the consistent winds to sail year round and visit such destinations as Government Island and Beacon Rock to the East, St. Helens and downtown Portland to the West.
Our members and students are invited to relax in our clubhouse situated at the end of row D in Tomahawk Bay Marina. The clubhouse is a cozy pre or post sail environment as it includes restroom facilities, classroom and wood burning stove. The proximity from the clubhouse to the boats allows staff to be available at all times to assist you should a question arise.
There's plenty to do in the area - Columbia Crossings concerts, cafe, shopping...
