Olympia Sailing on the South Puget Sound

Welcome to Island Sailing in Olympia, Washington. We offer sailing on the beautiful waters of South Puget Sound.

South Puget Sound has much to offer. The South Sound is a spectacular area with views of glacier covered Mt. Rainier and the Olympic Mountains. Within easy reach of the Seattle and Portland metropolitan areas, Olympia offers convenient chartering access to many of the best sailing waters in the Northwest.

Our local Budd Inlet is a beautiful location for daysailing. Club membership is a practical and economical way to enjoy this corner of the South Sound.

For those of you who enjoy getting away from it all, there are many state parks with mooring buoys and anchorages within an easy day's sail. Our summers are mild with winds usually picking up in the evening. Fall is probably our most spectacular time of year with rich fall colors, rainbows and good winds. Within walking distance of our docks, the City of Olympia offers numerous restaurants, stores and historic sites.

For the more adventurous, more northerly destinations abound. For those interested in taking longer trips, you can take advantage of the many nice harbors and anchorages between here and Port Townsend. Beyond that, we have the beauty of the San Juans, the Gulf Islands, and Victoria, BC.

We are located at Swantown Marina in the Port of Olympia. We are an ASA certification facility and offer a full range of ASA courses. Most of our classes are taught by Captain Jon Prins, Island Sailing's Washington Director. Jon has over 30 years as a public and private school teacher experience with over 40 years sailing his own boats in the waters of Southern California, the Sea of Cortez in Mexico, off shore to Hawaii and most recently the Puget Sound area.
