If you're new to sailing or unsure about the commitment, we encourage you to discuss any concerns and ask questions. If you've never sailed before, ask us about arranging a casual introductory sail with an instructor to see whether sailing is right for you.

PDX: SAIL TRIM CLINIC: Sunday, October 19th . 10:00 am - 5:30 pm
[SAIL TRIM: From the Basics to Infinity and Beyond!] Captain Paul Sammons will be offering a one-day clinic devoted to sail trim & performance sailing, which will include both classroom and on-water activities. Class Fee: Members $60.00 / Public $80.00. PDX: (ASA 119) WEATHER ENDORSEMENT . Saturday and Sunday, October 25th / 26th . 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
ASA’s Weather Endorsement teaches the practical application of both atmospheric science and oceanography in relation to sailing. You will gain a fundamental understanding of weather, its interaction with the sea, as well as squalls, fronts, storms, atmospheric pressure, global wind patterns and how they influence the planning and execution of your sail, locally and globally. Anyone who ventures onto the water can benefit from this course – dinghy to tall-ship sailors, racers or cruisers, offshore or lake-bound sailors will all find merit in this class. Class Fee: Members $245.00 / Public $275.00 Taught by ISC Member David Wilkinson.

PDX: (ASA 120) RADAR ENDORSEMENT . Saturday, November 8th . 9:00 am - 6:00 pm

PDX: HEAVY WEATHER SEMINAR . Saturday, November 15th . 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Instructed by: ALAN SOMERVELL / DAVID WILKINSON: Three Part Seminar: Part 1 will describe strong wind systems you will find at home in the Pacific Northwest. Learn how to read a weather chart and get the data you need to prepare both your boat and crew for heavy winds. Part 2 will showcase the practicalities of sailing in stronger winds and higher waves so that you can make your sail safer and more enjoyable for your crew. Part 3 will offer students an opportunity to sign up to sail with Alan to experience these conditions throughout the winter as our winter storms develop. Class Fee: Members $50.00 / Public $75.00
